News ArticlesAsian Reader1 Jan 2004 MAYOR APPOINTS FIVE TO THE SMALL BUSINESS ADVISORY BOARDSan Diego — Mayor Dick Murphy announces the appointment of Faith Bautista and the reappointment of Scott Cummins, Jesse Navarro, Judy Preston and Chi Kim Tran to the Small Business Advisory Board, The Board’s duties include: developing a cooperative and supportive atmosphere on behalf of the small business community in its relationship with the city of San Diego; advocating for the small business community; advising the mayor, City Council and city manager on relevant issues, as well as laws, policies, and procedures which may affect the management, operation or financial stability of small businesses.
Faith Bautista has been a small business owner for 16 years, as the owner of San Diego Advertising Specialties; she received the Working Mother Leadership Award in 1993. Bautista is a past president of the Asian Business Association and the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Philippine School of Business Administration. Scott Cummins is an attorney with the law firm of Casey, Gerry, Reed & Schenk. He has served as director and secretary of the La Jolla Youth Soccer League and general editor of Forum Magazine. He received his law degree from Loyola Law School. Jesse Navarro, a former San Diego Police officer, is a special assistant for community relations to the San Diego District Attorney. Navarro owns the restaurant La Casita and formerly owned an investigative and consulting business. He is the founder and a current board member of the San Diego Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Navarro also serves on the board of the state’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Judy Preston, owner of Bankers Hill Properties, is a real estate broker and small business owner. Preston is a member of the Greater San Diego Business Association and serves as treasurer of the Point Loma-Ocean Beach Board of Realtors. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from National University. Chi Kim Tran is the director of economic development for Union of Pan Asian Communities. She holds a master’s degree in health services management from San Diego State University. |
