Business Brief The San Diego County Bar Foundation will recognize the late Richard Gerry at the Distinguished Lawyer Memorial on Wednesday, May 25. Gerry is one of 12 honorees for the memorial, which annually pays tribute to esteemed past members of the San Diego legal community who are deceased. Gerry, who lived in La Jolla and was a founding partner of Casey, Gerry, Schenk, Francavilla, Blatt & Penfield, was best known for his role in helping litigate the Exxon Valdez oil spill lawsuit, which ultimately resulted in a ground-breaking $5 billion judgment. Inductees are determined "based on their superior legal skills and high ethical standards throughout careers of significant length," according to Bar Foundation executive director Briana Wagner. "They have demonstrated themselves to be honest, fair, civil, and gently mannered throughout their careers." Gerry, who passed away last year, will have a personalized plaque permanently on display at the Hall of Justice downtown. The Distinguished Lawyer Memorial will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Bar Center, 1333 Seventh Ave. For more information or to RSVP contact the Bar Foundation, (619) 231-7015. |
