AccomplishmentsSan Diego Daily Transcript15 May 1992 Jogger’s award is $3.47 millionThe county has been ordered to pay $1.9 million of a $3.47 million jury award in favor of a jogger who suffered brain damage after being struck by a car on Sweetwater Road in 1989. The jury in Superior Court Judge Mack Lovett’s courtroom found the county 35 percent responsible for failing to protect pedestrians on a road where cars travel at 50 mph. The rest of the liability was attributed to driver Patrick Garza Jr. Jogger Joseph Johnson, 23, suffered severe brain and knee injury and is now disabled and living with his parents in Chula Vista. David Casey Jr. and Gail Blatt represented Johnson during the two-week trial. Garza was represented by Bill Harris and Jackie Stearns represented the county.
