On September 19, the Food and Drug Administration acted to protect the health and safety of the American people and issued a
Class I recall of all the Synex II vertebral replacement systems distributed by Snythes between July 2, 2007, and September 8, 2009, due to the fact that the devices might fail at any time.
Synex II failure can cause any number of serious injuries such as:
- Paralysis
- Nerve Injury
- Increased Pain
- Spinal Compression Fracture
- Failure of Additional Fixation
The Synex II is designed to replace a vertebrae damaged by disease or injury. After surgeons implant it, the Synex II should help protect the bundle of nerves in the spinal column as well as help support the upper body. A special feature of the Synex II is the “ratcheting” function that allows doctors to expand or contract the size of the device in order to accommodate the various shapes and dimensions of a patient’s body.
Unfortunately, investigators discovered that the Synex II could collapse without warning or cause.
Reports of six collapses prompted the FDA to recall the Synex II, WHETHER IT HAS FAILED OR NOT, because the likelihood of collapse and injury was too high to ignore.
This means that even people who have never had problems with their implant must now live with the uncertainty and fear that they could suffer a catastrophic complication of the collapse of an implant that was supposed to protect them. In addition, it is quite possible that people with the Synex II will have to have corrective surgery to replace or repair it, and everyone who has had back surgery knows what an ordeal it is, and that it is something to be avoided if at all possible.
If you or someone you love has the Synex II vertebral replacement system manufactured by Snythes, consult a healthcare professional immediately WHETHER IT HAS FAILED OR NOT. You need to understand the risks posed by this
defective medical device and understand what the recall means to you.
Once you have secured your health, you need to consult with a defective medical device attorney to protect your rights and ensure that your suffering is noted and addressed by the company that caused it.
