Frequently asked questions

Why is the FDA telling people not to use Hydroxycut?
The FDA is charged with collecting reports of health problems, illnesses, and deaths associated with the use of drugs and supplements. It has received 23 reports of serious illness, one resulting in death, in people who have used Hydroxycut products. Although this number is small compared to all people who have used Hydroxycut, the severity of the illnesses suggests a significant risk for users.

What should I do if I’m using or have used a Hydroxycut product?
Stop using it immediately. Linda Katz, M.D., interim chief medical officer of FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition advises that anyone who has used one of these products and is experiencing symptoms associated with its use should consult with their doctor or other health care professional.

If I’ve used a Hydroxycut product will I have liver damage?
Not everyone who uses Hydroxycut will suffer serious health problems. However, at this point researchers cannot predict who will get sick and who will not. It is wiser simply to avoid a product that is known to be dangerous to some people.

What are they symptoms of liver damage?
Symptoms of liver injury include jaundice, the skin and the whites of the eyes turning yellow, and dark brown urine. Other symptoms of liver injury include excessive fatigue, weakness, nausea, vomiting, itching, loss of appetite, light-colored stools, and stomach or abdominal pain.

I’ve used Hydroxycut and may have suffered liver damage. Should I contact an attorney?
If you or a loved one has used any of the 14 Hydroxycut products that have now been recalled, and has experienced symptoms from its use, you should contact an attorney immediately for review of a potential claim against the manufacturer. There are deadlines set by laws which regulate the filing of lawsuits called statutes of limitation, which vary state by state. If you know that you or a loved one was harmed, you should not delay in contacting an attorney. If the statute of limitations expires, your right to pursue a claim against the manufacturer may be forever barred.
